Aware3
A church and community engagement SaaS company built around mobile apps, CMS integrations, and scalable delivery systems.
Aware3 (previously Aireal Mobile, later Nelnet Community Engagement/NCE) is a SaaS platform for church and community engagement: customizable mobile apps backed by a web CMS, with features like calendars, chat, maps, Q&A, and giving/tithing workflows. Over time the product evolved into what became the “Impact Platform” and was later acquired by Nelnet (NNI) and folded into the FACTS suite.
My involvement had two distinct phases.
Around 2010, IDC Projects was contracted to build the first iOS and Android prototypes. I managed budget, people, and oversight while developers built the initial native apps.
Around 2018, I returned via Lando Consulting to modernize the infrastructure end-to-end: migration from LiquidWeb to AWS, containerization with Docker and ECS, move to Aurora MySQL, rebuild of the CI/CD pipeline (Jenkins on Fargate), and a major scale-up of the app build/release system (from single-digit weekly builds to 1,000+ builds per release cycle). That work positioned the platform for acquisition by Nelnet.
