What It Is

VMware ESXi is an enterprise hypervisor for virtualization. It’s where my homelab virtualization work started, running on a pair of Mac Pros years before the current Proxmox cluster.

Where I Stand Today

I know ESXi well from hands-on use, but I don’t recommend it to clients for new builds — licensing changes since the Broadcom acquisition have made it a worse default than open alternatives like Proxmox.
