Created a proof of concept using ultra-low-cost ESP8266 microcontrollers to build a multi-node network that scanned and captured nearby WiFi adapter MAC addresses — demonstrating that even with rotating MAC addresses (Apple’s privacy feature), the combination of broadcast SSIDs could uniquely fingerprint devices. The project was part security research, part hardware tinkering, and part public interest: people should understand what their devices are broadcasting.
