Robotics brings together many of the things I care about most: building, learning, teamwork, mentorship, and the joy of making complex systems real.
I became involved in FIRST in 2017, but the roots go back earlier. Science Olympiad had a meaningful impact on me in junior high and high school and helped shape how I learned STEM. Robotics feels like a continuation of that path in a more collaborative, visible, and hands-on form.
FIRST especially stands out to me because it makes engineering approachable while teaching things that go beyond engineering alone: partnership, responsibility, iteration, communication, and gracious professionalism. I align strongly with that ethos.
I enjoy the gadgets, software, design, and problem-solving, but just as much I value inspiring younger builders and working alongside people who care about creating useful things together. These are very much my people.
I have even made some of my own FRC compatible robots out of LEGO.
