Before smart home meant buying a subscription, it meant building things from parts. This was an early DIY security prototype — a laser beam across a doorway, a photoresistor to detect the break, and a circuit to trigger an alarm. No app, no cloud, no dashboard. Just physics, a breadboard, and the satisfaction of watching it actually work. Every builder has a project like this somewhere in their past. This was one of mine.
